John and Ann Gearen Endowed Scholarship | Scholarship For Under-represented Students_ the host is pleased to announce commencement of online application into its scholarship program. John and Ann Gearen are happy to be providing this Scholarship to create opportunities for college students. This Scholarship is available for the underrepresented students. The Scholarship Amount is Up to $2,000. The scholarships are awarded to four-six students annually. John and Ann Gearen resides in Oak Park, Illinois. They have both encouraged all their 3 children to study internationally.
John and Ann Gearen Endowed Scholarship Description
John worked on the Board of Directors in the IES Abroad from the year 1981 to 2016, there he served as a Chair of the Board from the year 1999 to the year 2004. He has worked on the Emeritus Board right from 2017. John had been successful to win a Rhodes Scholarship award in the year 1965 and in reaction to his own life-changing experience which he got at the Oxford Uni between the years 1965 to 1967, plus his time of serving on the IES Abroad board as it boomed over the years, he teamed up with Ann to establish this Scholarship program. John and Ann Gearen resides in Oak Park, Illinois. They have both encouraged all their 3 children to study internationally.
Ann bagged a PhD degree in English and a Master’s degree in Social Work which she got from the University of Chicago. She has served at the shelter for abused women and in private therapy practice up to the time she retired recently. After Oxford, John passed out from Yale Law School, clerked for one on the United States Court of Appeals sited in DC, and then went back to Mayer Brown LLP sited in Chicago, where he did a commercial real estate practice, and up till the recent year he headed the Firm’s international real estate group.
John and Ann are of the belief system that a study abroad experience offers a transformational experience. They are happy to provide this Scholarship to fund that opportunity for college students. The John $ Ann Gearen Scholarship is available for the underrepresented students
